Manipal Academy of Higher Education is synonymous with excellence in higher education. Over 35,000 students from 60+ nations live, learn and play in the sprawling University town, nestled on a plateau in Karnataka’s Udupi district. The MAHE has off-campuses in Mangalore, Bangalore, and Jamshedpur and an off-shore campuses in Dubai (UAE). The Mangalore campus offers Medical and Dental programmes. The Bangalore Campus offers programs in Regenerative Medicine, Engineering, Art & Design, Humanities, Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, Law, and Management. The Dubai campus offers programmes in Engineering, Management, Architecture, Information Sciences, Media Communication, etc.
Every institute has world-class facilities and pedagogy, which are constantly reviewed and upgraded to reflect the latest trends and developments in higher education. Presently MAHE offers about 300+ programmes in 31+ streams which include undergraduate, postgraduate, and postdoctoral levels at its campuses in India and overseas.
In the Department of Data Science (DoDS) (formerly the Department of Statistics) structured and unstructured Data are gathered or generated that are needed as a basis for the development of policy options and public health activities. New approaches to data-handling and -analysis like Big Data or Artificial Intelligence will be applied for available and/or newly generated data sets.
The Centres of Health Demography and Digital Health alloted to the Department of Data Science are good examples for the research done as here new and existing data are generated, gathered and processed.
The Department of Data Science was established as the first teaching department under MAHE, Manipal on August 1, 2006. The department offers courses in Statistics/Applied Statistics/ Research Methodology to Graduate and Doctoral students within the university and Executive Education Programme for corporate biostatisticians. Collaboration with National/International agencies and International Universities has enhanced its strength. The department has state of the art computational facility equipped with SPSS, STATA, and SAS.
The department offers the Master of Science in Biostatistics (MSc in Biostatistics), Master of Science in Data Science (MSc in Data Science) and Master of Science in Digital Epidemiology (MSc in Digital Epidemiology) Programmes (2 Years – with modular based curriculum framework), Certificate course in Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Research Methodology (6 months) and Doctoral Programmes. The department also offers various teaching programmes related to statistics, epidemiology & research methodology to postgraduates and undergraduates of several health science courses under the university. Department has collaborative projects with national and international agencies. Students are actively encouraged to become familiar with statistical computing, prepare research protocols and reports and facing the statistical problems.
The Department of Mathematics at Manipal Institute of Technology was started in 1957 and provides the students with the mathematical foundation required to analyze all engineering and applied science courses. Apart from this, it also provides the mathematical methods to formulate, analyze and to solve the problems of engineering and management through the higher level and elective courses. The faculty members help students in acquiring a conceptual understanding of the nature and structure of mathematics, its processes, and applications.
The department caters to undergraduate courses through regular and elective subjects, PG courses like M. Sc., M. Tech., MCA, as well as pure and applied mathematics in the other consistent institutions of Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
