Achievements: Professor Nair retired from the IOE and Statistics Departments in 2016. He is currently Managing Director and Head of Modeling, Machine Learning, and Advanced Computing in the Corporate Model Risk Group at Wells Fargo. While he was at Michigan, he taught graduate courses in reliability, design of experiments and quality improvement as well as undergraduate courses in introductory statistics, regression, and design of experiments. He served as Chair of the Statistics Department from 1998-2010. Vijay was instrumental in launching the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS) and was recognized as a Distinguished Scientist by MIDAS. Prior to joining Michigan, he spent 15 years as a Research Scientist in the Mathematical Sciences Research Center at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey. He is an elected as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Statistical Association, American Society for Quality, and Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He is a former President of the International Statistical Institute, former (chief) editor of International Statistical Review, and former editor of Technometrics.
