Research Interests: Econometrics, Business analytics.
Achievements: T. Krishna Kumar's main expertise is Econometric modelling for business policy and public policy. It is his wish to extend the frontiers of business analytics work interfacing business problems on the one hand and recent advances in applied statistics on the other.
His interests are also revealed in his recent publication in business analytics. It is a new Advanced Graduate Text Book: Developing Econometrics, (Hengqing Tong, T. Krishna Kumar, and Yangxin Huang), John Wiley and Sons, 2011.
In addition, he has been following one line of research, a road not often taken by many, estimation of a poverty index without a poverty line. The first paper was published in Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference in 1996 (with V. Sitaramam and Anil Gore). Sitaramam was the person who came up with that idea. This was followed by another more detailed paper in Journal of Development Studies, Sussex, UK in 2009 (with Sushanta Mallick and Jayaram Holla). This was the P.V. Sukhatme Memorial Lecture he delivered at the Annual Meetings of the Indian Society of Probability and Statistics, Nagpur, November 2007. The latest work along these lines was published in Physical Reviews-E, March 2017. It is titled "Poverty Index with Time varying Income and Consumption Distributions" (with Amit Chattopadhyay and Sushanta Mallick, Amit being the lead author as he developed an agent-based trade model for assets and commodities using Fokker-Planck equation in physics, and linked it to time varying income and consumption distributions).
