Centre for Advanced Research in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, MAHE, Manipal, India
Centre for Advanced Research in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, MAHE organizes a preconference workshop ‘International Workshop on Special Matrices, Graphs, and Applications’ during December 11-17, 2023, a week before the conference ‘International Conference on Linear Algebra and its Applications (ICLAA 2023)’. The main goal of the workshop is to train young students, scholars, and faculty interested in the focus area of special matrices, graphs, and their applications and to provide exposure to recent developments, applications, and open research problems in this rapidly advancing and dynamic field. The workshop also aims to stimulate research and support the interaction among the scientists by creating an environment for the participants to exchange ideas and to initiate collaborations and professional partnerships. The workshop is an excellent opportunity for the interested students and researchers to have interaction with the eminent personalities of the subject.
Sessions in the workshop include lectures, tutorials, and discussion on recent research trends in special matrices and graphs by Abraham Berman, Ravindra B Bapat, S K Neogy, Sivaramakrishnan Sivasubramanian, and other leading personalities of the subject. The course conducted in the workshop will carry a credit of two.
A limited number of seriously interested Students (Doctoral/Post-doctoral)/Faculty with a good background of Linear Algebra and Graph Theory will be selected for participation in the workshop. They, having basic knowledge of Matrix Theory, Graphs, and Matrices associated with graphs is appreciated. Conference participants may seek participation in the workshop. Participants who could gain the benefit from the course will be chosen as the applications arrive.
Note: Certificates will be issued only to the participants who complete the tutorial assignments.
Workshop and conference are organized by the CARAMS, MAHE in association with Department of Mathematics, MIT, MAHE and Department of Data Science, PSPH, MAHE.
Timeline for the submission of paper for journal publications, please visit publication section.

More than 50 special matrices are discussed in the literature. However, awareness of the importance of these special matrix classes and their properties are restricted to the researchers who are working on these matrices and these are available in journals like Linear Algebra and its Applications, Linear and Multilinear Algebra, SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications and in the journal on Special Matrices. In this workshop we provide definitions, names, source information, and commentary on these special matrix classes. The matrix classes, we plan to discuss are listed below: Positive semidefnite matrices, positive sub-definite matrices and its generalizations, H-matrix, P(P0), almost P, exact order P matrices, P1, P*, P*(k), adequate matrices, sufficient matrices, N(N0), N-bar, almost N, almost N bar, exact order N-matrices, row adequate, column adequate, adequate matrices, Z, Z+ matrices, hidden Z matrices, K(K0),Kh-matrices, copositive( copositive-plus, copositive star) matrices, almost copositive matrices, fully copositive matrices, almost fully copositive matrices, semimonotone, strictly semimonotone, Fully semimonotone matrices, almost fully semimonotone, Q(Q0) matrices, S(S0) matrices, R0-matrices, Eaves class, Garcia’s class, Doverspike’s class, Todd’s class of matrices and many more. We also discuss various generalizations of the class mentioned above. Further, we mention some open problems on these special matrices.
